OPM+ Archive

$30.00

The Manila Sound marks an era of Filipino music that began in the mid-1970s and is widely regarded as the golden age of Original Pilipino Music (OPM). Born during the turbulent years of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s martial law regime, this musical movement remains one of the enduring legacies of the time. Iconic groups like VST & Company, Boyfriends, Hotdog, and Cinderella dominated the airwaves, helping shape the OPM genre as it is known today.

This artist book is a box set of flexagons, or "flexible zines", that archive some of Les Talusan’s Original Pilipino Music 7” records.

Les Talusan a.k.a. Les The DJ, grew up in Kalookan City during the 1980s, where music was an ever-present force in their daily life. From the AM radio that greeted the morning, to the lunchtime variety shows filled with song and dance, to the melodies that echoed from jeepneys and buses—music was everywhere. Even after living in Washington, DC for more than 20 years, those songs continue to leave a lasting impression on them.

Passenger Pigeon Press has collaborated with Les to create this artist book box set of flexagons that archive some of Les’s Original Pilipino Music 7” records and their practice.

OPM+ Archive , was produced using black and white photocopy and digital printing. 10 pt. Futura font was used inside, and Futura font was used on the cover. The internal pamphlet and flexagons are 20 lb text weight paper. There are vinyl circles on the cover boxes, which are made of corrugated cardboard. The LP record scans and introduction were provided by Les Talusan. This publication was designed by Tammy Nguyen and produced by Holly Greene, Chance Lockard, and Daniella Porras.
